A Digital Hub for Green Skills and Learning Cities: Discover the LEAP II Platform

The LEAP II platform brings together practical tools, learning resources, and community-oriented solutions to support greener and more inclusive local development across Europe

One of the most important achievements of the LEAP II – Local Adult Education Policy II project is the creation of its dedicated online platform: a multilingual and open-access digital space designed to support local authorities, educators, organisations, and citizens in strengthening sustainability education and promoting the concept of Learning Cities.

More than just a project website, the LEAP II platform was developed as a practical learning and resource hub where users can easily access educational materials, examples of good practices, policy-oriented guidance, and micro-learning opportunities connected to green skills and lifelong learning. The platform reflects the project’s wider mission of making sustainability education more accessible, community-based, and applicable to everyday local realities.

Visitors entering the platform can explore three major sets of project results, each addressing a different dimension of sustainable local development and lifelong learning.

A first key section is dedicated to the Case Studies on Education for Sustainability and Learning Cities. Here, users can discover real examples and experiences collected from partner cities and municipalities across Europe. The section includes analytical insights, local practices, and practical reflections showing how communities can encourage citizen participation, sustainability awareness, and educational innovation at local level. These materials are especially valuable for municipalities, policy-makers, adult education providers, and organisations looking for inspiration and replicable approaches.

Another core component of the platform is the Green Skills Micro-learning area, which offers short, accessible, and engaging educational units focused on sustainability competences and environmentally responsible behaviours. The micro-learning format allows users to study flexibly and progressively, making the learning process easier to integrate into everyday personal and professional life. Through these resources, citizens can improve their understanding of green practices, sustainable habits, and community-oriented environmental actions without needing extensive prior knowledge or long-term training commitments.

The platform also hosts the Manual for Building Learning Cities, a practical and experience-based guide aimed at supporting local authorities and educational ecosystems in developing their own Learning City strategies and initiatives. The manual provides recommendations, methodologies, and actionable ideas that can help communities strengthen local cooperation, support lifelong learning participation, and integrate sustainability into local governance and education systems.

A particularly important aspect of the LEAP II platform is its accessibility and openness. All materials developed during the project are available free of charge and in multiple languages, helping ensure that communities across Europe can benefit from the project regardless of their national or institutional context. The platform was intentionally designed to be user-friendly, intuitive, and accessible to a broad audience, including smaller municipalities and organisations with limited resources.

By centralising all project outputs into a single digital environment, the LEAP II platform contributes to the long-term sustainability and visibility of the project results. It enables local stakeholders not only to access information, but also to identify concrete ideas, educational approaches, and practical tools that can support greener and more learning-oriented communities in the future.

The LEAP II project was co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Commission, supporting cooperation and innovation in education, training, and lifelong learning across Europe.
